Boyd Group International, Inc. - Aviation Hot Flash & Insights

10:50 PM May 6th
• There must be political reincarnation. Dan Quayle is back. And he looks just like Joe Biden. It's Gaffe City with our new Veep.rnrnThe classic, of course, was when Biden urged some guy in a wheelchair at a political rally to stand up and take a bow. Later, during the campaign debate he proudly stated he regularly talks to the common folk at some local home town cafe. A cafe that'd been closed for years. rnrnThe latest is the Veep's advice last week on national television, urging people to avoid airline travel for fear of getting swine flu. It was yet another example of how really oblivious this administration is to aviation, how it works, and the enormous value it has to the national economy. rnrn …full story

Thermal Screening for Flu Symptoms | Security Management

8:13 PM Apr 27th
• 04/27/2009 - In an effort to contain the spread of the new swine flu, the U.S. is doing "passive" surveillance at airports and other entry points. "That means that they're looking for people ... and asking about, are you sick, have you been sick, and the like; and if so, then they can be referred over for further examination," said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano at a press conference. Other countries are taking a high-tech approach, reports the Globe and Mail, using thermal cameras to scan passengers for signs of fever. rnrn"Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea and the Philippines dusted off thermal scanners used during the 2003 SARS crisis and were checking for signs of fever among passengers arriving at airports from North America," writes Ray Lilley of the Associated Press in an article appearing in the Globe and Mail.rnrn …full story

• Airports are riddled with germs and sickly folk that have no business being in public, right? In most instances you can get away from them, but if they’re on your flight, the risk of getting sick increases ten fold. Or something like that. If Belgium’s Biorics’ latest project gets off the ground then we may never have to worry about flying with sick people ever again. …full story

***Welcome to Dynalifter.com!***

8:18 PM Apr 21st
• Only a few times in a generation does a technology emerge that has the potential of changing the world’s economy. For centuries, man has sought to find more cost-effective ways of transporting goods over vast distances. Successful examples of this include the Roman road network, the Panama & Suez canals, the Trans-continental Railroad, and the US Freeway System.rnrnThere is a direct correlation between a nation’s transportation & communications infrastructure and their standard of living. Where developing nations once could not afford to ‘catch up’ with First World nations’ complex telecommunication systems, they are suddenly able to leapfrog ‘landline’ technology with the creation of wireless networks. Many people in these countries who have never had telephones in their home are currently conducting global business with cell phones and on the Internet.rnrnA transportation breakthrough comparable to the wireless revolution does not yet exist. Ohio Airships feels that it holds the key to such a transportation revolution with the inception of Dynalifter “Roadless Trucking” systems.rnrn …full story

Trends and Developments in Airport Design

3:54 PM Apr 14th
• The aviation business has a new appearance. The most obvious and serious factor that has reshaped the industry’s processes is the security screening requirements mandated after the 9/11 tragedies. But the long-term impacts of airline deregulation may have an even bigger impact on the travel environment. rnrnAs airlines face continued financial challenges, they increasingly look to airport owners and their consultants to help maximize the use of existing gates and related terminal facilities, streamline the check-in process, facilitate passenger movement from airport curb to boarding gate and create an overall rewarding travel experience for passengers. rnrn …full story
