Create a feed and add news monitors (WatchPoints)

Create a feed on any topic to help you and your readers find news and updates on any number of websites and RSS feeds.   Feeds are easy to create and can be made public or private and shared with colleagues and friends.   Best of all, you control the content.   By specifying where to monitor news and updates, you create a streamlined listing of news and updates from all over the Internet.

Others can follow your feed online, by email, on their mobile devices, on a gadget running on another website blog or profile, or as tweets on Twitter.  You can even designate others as contributing editors to your feed allowing them to add content.  Forget desktop RSS readers and cumbersome browser bookmarks.  They are now a thing of the past!

Example create feed form:
  • Feed Name - This name displays to your readers
  • Feed Alias - Used to make a URL shortcut on WebPartner to your feed. Many people use their Twitter account username in this area to match it up with Twitter.
    http://webpartner.com/yourfeed
  • Feed Description - Shown in the "Find Feeds" page. This text is also used in WebPartner's search and is also indexed by Google.
  • Tags - Used in WebPartner search to help find your feed.
  • Allow readers to contact you - Your name on the feed will have a link to a contact form that only goes to you. We recommend you say "Yes" to this so that people can give you feedback or make suggestions.
  • Feed Publish - You can keep your feed private (only available for a limited time) or you can make the feed public.
  • Publish RSS Feed - We recommend you check this box so that your readers can view your feed via RSS if they so desire.
 Add WatchPoints to your feed
  • WatchPoints are sources of content for your feed. WatchPoints can be other RSS feeds, or even designated blocks of text and graphics on a web page (see bottom of this page for directions on using the WebPartner toolbar to pull updated content from the latter).
  • Click on "My Feeds" tab at the top of this page
  • Pick your feed from the list
  • Add a standardized news feed for WebPartner to monitor like RSS, Atom, or RDF
Example:

You will then see a dialog that looks like this:
Add a news feed dialog
  • Feed Name - Is whatever you decide. It is never displayed.
  • News Source - This field is displayed in front of every headline. Please attribute your headlines to their proper source. It is required. If we detect that headlines are not attributed to their source you may have your account suspended.
  • Feed URL - is the URL to the actual RSS, Atom, or RDF feed. See below for a tutorial on how to find a news feed.
  • Add feed to this feed - Pick one of your feeds to add the feed to.
  • How often to monitor - WebPartner will monitor this news feed on this interval. If the news feed changes WebPartner will produce a new headline on your WebPartner feed and also Tweet it if your account is hooked up to Twitter.

Or add a solo headline with an article link
  • Sometimes you just want to point to an interesting article.
  • Use this when you don't want to monitor a site for changes
Example:

Hook your new feed up to your Twitter account
  • When you select this option, WebPartner will automatically Tweet new headlines to your account
  • Use the Tweet link to Tweet headlines that occurred prior to hooking up your Twitter account
Example:

WatchPoints on WebPages:
If you would like to designate blocks of text and graphics on a web page as WatchPoints that generate headlines when changes and updates occur, you can use our Internet Explorer toolbar.
  • Create new feeds from the toolbar
  • Designate blocks of text and graphics as WatchPoints when there are no appropriate RSS feeds available on the page.
  • With the toolbar, you can also add RSS, Atom, and RDF feeds to your WebPartner feed.
  • With the toolbar, you can also add solo headlines (one-time - not monitored for changes) to your feed by navigating to the page and clicking on "New Headline".
